In the morning, he was gone. There was a Post-it stuck to the (still mostly full) coffeepot that said: Aidan needed help. Meet at your place at 9? Felicia wants to film.

All business. Except for the little heart scratched under the words. Her heart sped up.

Business, think about business. That was the important part.

Was it? The night before—oh, Lord.

She’d slept with him. What’s more, she’d wanted it. She’d have done anything for it last night. Even with everything that had happened so long ago—and he knew none of it—she’d lost her mind the night before.

And what’s more, if he walked right back in here? She’d lose her mind all over again. Zora’s forehead started sweating at the very thought of seeing him again.

Start the day. She took her toothbrush and toothpaste from her overnight bag and grabbed the towel that Jake had left folded for her at the end of the bed. The whole room, she realized, smelled like sex—their sex. She shivered deliciously and refused to think about the cameras. To her right, on a wooden sailboat with peeling green paint, a man was connecting a sail to the lower part of the mast. The man glanced at her and shot her a cheerful smile before going back to working with his knots.

To her left was a new-looking boat—bright, shiny pink with orange letters emblazoned on it. Night Moves. As Zora settled into the cushioned seat and took her first few sips, a woman came above deck. Oh, God, it was Mallory.

“Yoohoo!” Mallory trilled, her fingers a blur of waggling. “Zora, is that you?” She wore a lightweight white wrap around a bright red bikini top and tight blue pants that dipped low in front, showing off her magnificent abs. She matched her boat perfectly, sexy and sleek.

“Yep,” said Zora, unsure of what the protocol was in conversing between boats. Was it mandatory? Or could she say two words and then bolt back inside? She’d actually never found jewelry-designer Mallory annoyingly perfect until she’d dated Jake. They’d been a jaw-droppingly gorgeous couple for the few months they were together. His TV-ready rugged good
